XXO Cognac barrels from the prestigious Grande Champagne (280 liters, 1974–1976)
In the first quarter of next year, we will be welcoming something truly unique: exclusive XXO Cognac barrels from the years 1974–1976. These 350-liter barrels originate from the Grande Champagne region—the finest area for Cognac—and offer an exceptional flavor profile.

Grande Champagne
Grande Champagne is the most important and prestigious cru in the Cognac region, located in southwestern France. The name has nothing to do with Champagne sparkling wine; the word “champagne” derives from the old French campania, meaning “open limestone land.”

Location
Situated in the heart of the Cognac region, around towns such as Segonzac, Jarnac, and the city of Cognac itself.
Together with Petite Champagne, Borderies, Fins Bois, Bons Bois, and Bois Ordinaires, these areas form one of the six officially recognized crus (production zones) legally defined for the production of Cognac.

Soil and climate
The chalk-rich clay soil with fine white limestone—similar to that of the Champagne region—provides an ideal foundation for vineyards.
This soil retains moisture exceptionally well, which benefits the vines, especially during dry summers.

Cognac style
The eaux-de-vie (the base spirit for Cognac) from Grande Champagne are renowned for their great finesse, elegance, and longevity.
These barrels carry the aromatic signature of five decades of maturation. Over this long period, the Limousin oak has developed particularly intense and complex characteristics:
initially light and floral, evolving with age into deep aromas of:
dried flowers
vanilla
honey
dried fruit
spices
