Auchentonshan Lowland

Founded in 1825, Auchentoshan Distillery is located northwest of Glasgow on the River Clyde. The name Auchentoshan is Celtic for 'corner of the field', referring to the location where the distillery was built. The story goes that the distillery was built in 1825 by Irish refugees. This also explains the fact that Auchentoshan's whisky is distilled three times. Indeed, in Ireland it is common for Irish Whiskey to be distilled three times; this is not the case for Scotch whisky. During World War II, the distillery was completely destroyed by the bombings carried out. Which caused the distillery to be completely rebuilt and production to resume.
